Silent Night: 2 video tutorials
"Silent Night" is a classic Christmas carol that can be played with only three chords:
G major, C major (add9), and D major (or D/F#).
DIRECTIONS
1. Watch the video tutorials from Katie and Jonathan. You may notice that the shapes Katie and Jonathan use for the G and C chords are a little different than the ones we learned, but they should feel very comfortable to play. You will also find that it will be easier to move between G and C with these new shapes. 2. Decide which D chord is easier to play. Either version of the D chord will work. Practice shaping/playing both versions - Katie's D (major) and Jonathan's D/F# (a D major chord with an F# on the lowest string). 3. Practice shaping and strumming the three chords. Make sure you are comfortable with the shapes, checking that your fingers are on the correct strings and frets. Try pausing the video and matching your fingers with the guitarists in the videos. 4. Practice playing along to the song while watching the videos. But instead of strumming on the pattern they gives you, try strumming only once per measure/phrase, if it's easier. |
